As a 4-input/4-output USB audio/MIDI interface, the US-4x4 is perfect for music creation – and novice users in particular. It offers serious recording capabilities with 96 kHz/24-bit quality with easy-to-understand operation so users can make high-quality recordings as soon as the interface is connected.
Mic preamps are the key to audio quality, and the Ultra-HDDA mic preamps in the US-4x4 boasts –125 dBu EIN rating which means a very, very low noise floor. Because of the wide dynamic range, this interface can also be used with dynamic microphones in addition to condenser mics. This makes it ideal for a variety of applications from recording vocals, pianos and acoustic guitars.
The radical eye-catching angled design was crafted by a German designer, who has worked on numerous well-known devices used for music creation, and is optimized for ease of use on the desktop.
The newly designed driver software is easy to install, and easy to master by anyone. Operation has been tested with major DAW applications, so the user can choose their favourite DAW without concern. The US-4x4 can also be used as audio interface with iPads and other popular iOS devices by simply utilizing a genuine Apple Lightning-to-USB camera adapter (an AC adapter for use with iOS devices is already included as standard).
With the potential for future use with other DAWs and iOS devices, four microphone preamps for multi-mic setups and four configurable balanced outputs, the US-4x4 is the ideal choice for the novice user requiring more than two audio channels.
Ultra-HDDA mic preamps provide pristine audio quality

A great piece of equipment
Honestly, if you cant afford the octa-capture, or youre looking for something high quality that is also portable, and durable. look no further. This device is built very solid, and smart. It functions flawlessly.
A few things:
1. The drivers are extremely stable, 1000x more stable than drivers Ive used for any audio interface in the past. Heck, theyre even more stable than drivers Ive used for computer video cards and chipsets.
2. The preamps are pretty darn clean. Theres a slight bit of noise generated by them, but it doesnt become audible until high up on the potentiometer, and by then your input signal is way too loud and hot, possibly also clipping.
3. Quality of recordings is great.
4. Ground lift switch, for just in case moments.
5. Easy to install, unplug, replug and use. The driver control panel is very intuitive and easy to use.
6. Sound AMAZING. And I dont just mean the recordings, this thing sounds great in terms of output as well. I havent heard a sub-$500 interface sound this good in my experience before. It has crisp highs, but well defined lows and it could just be me but a decent spaciality. Not too extremely punchy.
7. MIDI and SPDIF In/ Out. Nuff said.
8. Auto sense feature is pretty sweet, helps me get good levels while at the same time understanding how its working. In the driver control panel you can adjust how much margin or buffer room in dB the auto sense feature allows. Default is -6dB.
9. The direct mix running through the device (whatever sounds are coming out of it, regardless of their source, can be captured as an input in your DAW. So anything from youtube videos to online lectures, can be recorded with ease.
Cons:
1. No separate control for headphone volume. Meaning if youre looking to recording something, and the person recording needs headphones, you need to manually turn off your studio monitors, because one knob controls the levels for both outputs. This is really sad they included this feature but regardless I rate it 5 stars.
2. My first unit seemed to be defective, however Sweetwater replaced it and my new one is running flawlessly.
3. No way to bypass the preamps. While this is something that ticks me off a tad bit, the vs-700 preamps that come with the quad capture are very dry and dont color the sound much at all, so as long as you know what youre doing you should be good
Trust me, youll thank me later. This may be a bit pricey, but with sweetwaters tech support and warranty you cant go wrong.
Like I said, the driver is the secret weapon keeping it HIGHLY stable.
Also, it seems to handle reverb envelopes pretty well, the internal clock must be pretty decent.
Definitely a must-buy, despite the slightly high price. Also, Roland has some amazing tech support compared to other companies.

DawBench- Sonar X3C VS Reaper 4.57
I recently purchased SonarX3 and updated it to X3C. Honestly, I wasn't too thrilled about X2 but I was curious as to how the boys in Boston have spent their time.
This test was done using DawBench DSP - Universal - R3 Benchmark suite. I used reaxcomp standalone vst.
My setup is as follows.
Windows 7 x64 with 0 windows updates installed
Intel Core I7 920 (2600k) OC'd to 3 ghz C1,overspeed, EIST Disabled, Hyperthreading Enabled.
24 gigs ddr3 1600, msi x58 platinum motherboard. SSD drives.
RME UCX via Firewire into PCI-X TI Chipset.
RME Driver 3.081
My methedology was to keep increasing instances of ReaXcomp until the DAW started to make angry buffer noises.
ROUND 1
@ 64 SAMPLES 24 Bit 44.1 KHZ
Sonar X3C 231- instances of ReaXcomp Standalone (launched with IOBIT Game Booster 3.4 in GameBox Mode)
Reaper 4.57- 96 instances (launched with IOBIT Game Booster 3.4 in GameBox Mode)
ROUND 2
Reaper 4.57- 96 instances (launched with IOBIT Game Booster 3.4 in GameBox Mode)
Sonar X3C- 212 instances (launched using standard method of windows explorer desktop icon-no Game Booster)
What I saw completely messed with my head. I fully expected Reaper to kill Sonar like it always previously has. I'm actually wondering how the hell this could happen.
I'm really happy that Sonar apparently did some mechanic work under the hood, but I'm having a hard time believing Reaper would get spanked. The results I expected were to have Reaper ahead by 10-20% at least. Can anyone point me to settings that would help get Reaper optimized? Also, anyone who has Sonar X3C and Reaper 4.57, could you please do the same benchmark and post your results. I'm having a difficult time coping with the results.
